Abstract

Contemporary Milanese author, authoritative critic of German literature and philosophy, Capriolo is a regular contributor to the Corriere della sera, and highly respected translator of German texts (Goethe, Mann, Kafka, Keller, Kleist, Schnitzler, Simmel, Stifter). This study focuses principally on philosophical and religious themes and motifs (questions of reality, identity, destiny, and 'meaning'), many of which draw on Capriolo's European (particularly Germanic) cultural interests.
