Drama inspired by the Morecambe Bay tragedy of 2004, in which at least 21 Chinese cockle-pickers lost their lives, directed by renowned documentary maker Nick Broomfield. The film traces the story of Ai Qin, a young woman who pays a gang to smuggle her into the UK in search of a better existence. Life soon becomes a grind though and in a desperate attempt to repay her debts, she joins a group who set out cockling in Morecambe Bay at night - with disastrous consequences.
