Abstract
Following helpful feedback from the Teaching and Learning Sub-Committee and further discussions with key staff from the School of Nursing, the project team have expanded on the information submitted for the initial bid and have incorporated responses to queries raised by the Sub-Committee. The aim of this project is to develop, evaluate and refine a computer assisted assessment programme for use within the school of nursing. The interactive programme will be designed to assess knowledge in the area of physiological measurement skills. The physiological measurements applicable to this project are blood pressure measurement, temperature measurement, pulse measurement and respiratory assessment. The programme to be designed and evaluated will be accessed by student nurses undertaking the pre-registration nurse training course qualifying with either the academic award of Diploma or Degree in adult, mental health or paediatric nursing. The programme is intended to assess and provide feedback to students in an interactive and stimulating way thereby enhancing the student learning to be subsequently incorporated within the students own personal development planning (PDP). The primary objective of PDP is to improve the capacity of individuals to understand what and how they are learning, and to review, plan and take responsibility of their own learning (Cottrell, 2001).
