| Abstract: | This project shows the production and visualisation of data, images of key dates in the history of Prestwich and Whitefield. The object of the timeline is to show the development of our community over the last two thousand years or more. It shows key dates and events in the history of Prestwich. The earlier periods are less well represented simply because of a lack of evidence. After 1800 Prestwich developed rapidly and Victorian and 20th century events are covered in detail. The Timeline is split into three strands. The top strand shows events in Prestwich itself with extensive illustrations. The middle strand shows major world events that help to put events in Prestwich into their historical perspective. The bottom strand shows the reigns of English monarchs, which puts what happened in Prestwich into context. The timeline begins in the Stone Age and moves from left to right in chronological order. |
