Abstract

Project and stakeholder engagement are poorly managed in disaster recovery projects requiring potential for more innovative and participatory approaches. To achieve improved participatory project management requires multiple stakeholder collaboration to assist and empower the survivors to build a resilient and sustainable environment. The survivors have to be a key stakeholder in all phases of Project Management of disaster recovery projects. Project Management practices must change its style to work with survivors through project strategic management approaches, flexibility in project/program management, holistic review of community, and an understanding how government and emergency management policies can vary between cities and countries impacting recovery.
