Abstract

This paper describes a survey of stone-built settlements in the interior grasslands of KwaZulu-Natal. These are examined at the levels of homestead, cluster and settlement within the landscape. Comparisons and contrasts are drawn with the ethnology of Nguni-speaking peoples in the region.
