Abstract
This paper explores a strategically important concept that is often less well defined in publication or discussion, that of understanding your audience, visitors and non-visitors. The benefits, value and applicability of visitor and non-visitor research to the global tourism industry is of paramount importance. Data can be disseminated to policy makers, educators, designers, environmentalists and the wider stakeholder community and will inform management policy, financial decision-making and strategic planning for sustainable tourism management.
