Two case studies are presented from within the plastics industry. The studies investigate the feasibility of optimizing resources using traditional manufacturing metrics. A data capture framework is presented, which represents pre-, intra- and post-production processes, and both internal and external perspectives on manufacturing and the use of facilities. The paper concludes with an assessment of the findings and of the potential for wider implementation of the framework within manufacturing industries.
