| Abstract: | Conducting performance given with the Grimethorpe Colliery Band at the RNCM Festival of Brass 2011. This is part of an International Festival at the RNCM, attracting many overseas visitors. The concerts are performed by the leading and most prominent UK bands, along with International soloists and guest featured international composers. This year also featured an ensemble from the Venezuelan El Sistema group, giving a truly international dimension to the Festival. Grimethorpe Colliery is also one of the leading UK bands with huge international recognition, e.g., the undertaking of an Australian Tour later in 2011. A number of significant premieres are also featured in the Festival. Premiered in my concert was Peter Meechan's new tuba work, 'Shine, for International soloist Les Neish. Also performed with the composer present, was Derek Bourgeois' 'Concerto No.1' |
