Abstract

The rise of social software, often termed Web 2.0, has resulted in heightened awareness of the opportunities for creative and innovative approaches to learning that are afforded by network technologies. 21st century learning demands new pedagogies, where the role of the tutor shifts from being the sole provider of knowledge to that of a guide, or mentor. This paper describes an online mentoring approach to training teachers in the use of Web 2.0 technologies using a range of social technologies, through the EU-funded VITAE project. We explore mentoring in an intercultural community, focusing on issues surrounding sustainability, multilingualism, mentoring in practice and organisational challenges.
