Abstract: | Bride Kidnapping has been a persistent problem in Kyrgyzstan and modernity has not reduced the occurrences of this practice often resorted to as a way of avoiding social class divisions or dowry requirements. In this film, this controversial custom is shown from the perspective of the Kyrgyz people themselves rather than from the point of view of Western standards and moral codes. The film was shot originally in 2009 and re-released with English and Russian subtitles in 2019. |
