Freelance musician and music teacher working with pupils and students of all ages – I have worked in many levels of educational establishments from Y2 to Masters Degree and performed in the capacity of a professional musician since 1994 Co-MD of the Wigan Youth Swing Band and the Wigan Youth Big Band; These two bands introduce young musicians to both ensemble playing and solo improvisation. Most of our pupils progress to play with the award winning Wigan Youth Jazz Orchestra. Regular & very successful exam entries with ABRSM, Trinity, Rockschool, Trinity Rock & Pop covering grades 1-8 and also further exam (performance and theory) preparation for study at Music College/ Conservatoire/University Advanced work with Undergraduates that have led to successful and high marked Degree performances 2020 - present day. External examiner for the popular music course RNCM 2016 – present day External Examiner for MA post-graduate masters performance at Leeds College of Music 2011- 2016 External examiner for undergraduate final performances at Leeds College Of Music Ensemble master classes given for the popular music course at RNCM (2016) and L.I.P.A (2015) 2010 – 2012 L.I.P.A Instrumental tutor and ensemble leader 1999- 2001 Bretton Hall University Instrumental tutor 1997 – 1999 M.A.N.C.A.T Instrumental tutor I have recorded and performed in many genres with many artists; from pop and rock artists such as Corinne Bailey Rae, Richard Hawley, Jarvis Cocker, Badly Drawn Boy, Georgie Fame, Motown artist Martha Reeves, The Temptations; recorded music for ITV programmes (Darling Buds of May, Heartbeat, Emmerdale, Video Diaries amongst others..), performed on BBC radio 2 shows at Maida Vale and Broadcasting House (Bob Harris, Mark Lamarr, Craig Charles) Have performed with contemporary Jazz artists such as Guy Barker, Pete King, Jean Toussaint, Jim Mullen, Martin Taylor, Gwillym Simcock, Gerard Presencer, Jason Rebello; Worked in countless projects with musicians from such bands as Morcheeba, The Brand New Heavies, Zero 7, The Cinematic Orchestra. I also compose original music that has been used in TV advertising and documentaries. I have performed at many festivals and venues across the U.K and Europe including Glastonbury, Royal Albert Hall, Amiens Les Nuit Blanches, Manchester Jazz, London Jazz, Cyprus Jazz, Montreux Jazz, Brecon Jazz, London Jazz Café, tours of France and Germany performing original music with France-based singer songwriter Angie Palmer along with tours of Slovenia with Kirsty Almeida. I have also had a considerable work playing both solo Classical and Jazz guitar for weddings and events across the country. Most recently I have been playing for the Manchester and Scottish Concert Orchestras at the Bridgewater Hall in Manchester and the Edinburgh and Glasgow Concert Halls playing a wide range of musical styles.
