Julie Nightingale is the Director of Radiography and Occupational Therapy and a Professor with a Teaching and Learning focus within the School of Health Sciences. She is a radiographer by profession, and has over 20 years of experience in higher education, supporting the rapid development of health professional education and research both within this university and across the UK. Her research and professional interests include practitioner behaviours, advanced and consultant practice, and patient experience, and she has led various education initiatives to support health service re-design. Current national committee roles include working with the Society and College of Radiographers, Public Health England and the Bowel Cancer Screening Programme QA committee.
As Chair of the UK Heads of Radiography Education forum, representing 24 UK higher education institutions, Julie has been responsible for the design and delivery of two UK professional conferences entitled Achieving Excellence in Education and Research. Beyond the health education sector she has recently been acknowledged as a progressive and facilitative education leader via recognition as a Principal Fellow of the Higher Education Academy.
Julie is the Editor-in-Chief of the international peer reviewed journal Radiography with a primary goal to enhance the reputation of the journal and to safeguard quality standards. To facilitate this Julie is driving forward an education strategy to disseminate knowledge and skills related to writing, publishing, reviewing, editing and research metrics to both a local and an international audience.
