Neil is a chartered structural (FIStructE) and chartered civil (MICE) engineer with over 15 years of varied experience in industry working for a variety of large multidisciplinary and smaller boutique style consulting engineers, developing elegant solutions for varied and complex design problems on a multitude of award winning projects. His portfolio is varied and he has experience in both leading multidisciplinary design engineering teams and working closely with architects and clients to establish and develop high level design principles and taking these through to the construction stage on a variety of projects ranging from single storey sustainably sourced demountable timber buildings through to 60 storey towers constructed in historic dock basins. He has spent several years carrying out the analysis and design of fabric and tensile structures, including the form finding, stress analysis and patterning of various types of structure ranging from inflatable structures, cable nets, fabric structures and including the non-linear analysis of cable structures. Having spent the previous 7 years as the Technical Manager, UK for the building structures teams at Halcrow delivering a broad portfolio of solutions both in the UK and internationally, he has joined the University of Salford team to further expand his research interests on tensile structures, tall buildings, deployable structures and sustainability.
