Abstract
The issues raised by self-harm in men are under-considered and under-researched. This article explores these issues from the perspective of ‘Andy’, whose name has been changed to protect his identity, who self-harms. It explores some of the issues that triggered a self-harming response in Andy as a way of coping with intense and overwhelming feelings and some of the support strategies that have helped his recovery. Strategies for helping men to take ownership of their behaviour and talk about their experiences are discussed.
