Abstract
In January 2011, a KTP project between Salford University and Nanoco Technologies was initiated to develop alternative, more efficient commercially viable routes to heavy metal-free quantum dots (QDs) allowing the exploitation of developing markets in the electronics industry. The technology developed by Nanoco was to be furthered by utilising cheaper and cleaner precursors. Currently we have been able to show that it is possible to make red and green QDs which are almost comparable to Nanoco QD products using alternative precursors. This will help drive down the cost of producing the QDs and further advance the goal of uptake of heavy metal free QD based technology.
