Abstract
This performance lecture uses my live intermedial practice to present research in the creative arts as a complex system, where interactions between the ‘parts’ of this system function to produce ‘novel properties’ (Beckerman in Barrett and Bolt 2010: 6). Given that such properties are not predictable prior to the research beginning, there is a focus on fostering and managing ‘emergence’ within a research project, as well as proposing ‘reflexivity’ (Haseman 2009) as a key condition of research in the creative arts.
