Abstract
This project was funded by the EPSRC Digital Economy Communities and Culture Plus Network and Mistra Urban Futures and involved collaboration between the University of Salford, the Biospheric Foundation and the Social Action and Research Foundation between October 2014 – May 2015. The project focussed on the Biospheric Foundation, a unique urban socio-ecological experiment in Blackfriars, East Salford. The Biospheric Foundation sought to deliver a whole system approach to urban farming in an area of high deprivation; design a dense environment of interconnecting systems; retrofit an old building into a centre for ecological research; and raise public awareness into health food and ecological systems in urban environments.
