Abstract

The purpose of this study was to explore quality of life issues for people with learning disabilities in both out-of-area and Salford community living. The study utilised a repeated measures design, in which the triangulation of qualitative and quantitative data was presented. The researcher utilised semi-structured interviews for individuals with a learning disability and administered a set of four quantitative measures at two data collection points (pre and post move). In a thematic analysis, the quality of life measures found on average, a statistically non-significant different in pre and post move data. Five key themes emerged from the qualitative data; decision making, environment, person centred care, activity, and support. Quality of life was found to improve upon return to the Salford community, particularly in the areas of social adjustment and community self-sufficiency.
