Abstract
Study of the industrial period in Cheshire (1750–1900), has been patchy. This thematic overview attempts to redress the balance and especially to highlight the contribution made over the last quarter-century by archaeological fieldwork. Of set purpose it is heavily descriptive. Nevertheless, it is set within the framework of recent developments in methodology and theory, and suggestions are made of possible future research themes. It is also the first methodological and theoretical archaeological overview of industrialization within Cheshire, one of the centres of the Industrial Revolution in the UK.
