Abstract
This chapter explores the culture for practice learning through developing the education team. The education team will of course include the three new roles outlined by the NMC: practice supervisor, practice assessor and academic assessor; but it has long been recognised that students learn from everyone that they meet in the clinical learning environment. This chapter therefore discusses the importance of building a culture where learning and practice development is everyone’s business. After reading this chapter you will be able to: • Identify and discuss the factors that make an effective practice learning environment • Understand the impact that the learning culture has on promoting effective student supervision and assessment • Explore the NMC Part 2 Standards for Supervision and Assessment and discuss the role of the education team in delivering quality supervision and assessment where you work • Understand the role of practice supervisor, practice assessor and academic assessor in supporting the student meet NMC programme requirements
