Tracy graduated with a BSc in Occupational Therapy from Leicester University in 1996. She has an MA in Sociology from The University of Memphis, which she studied part time while working as an Occupational Therapist in the USA. After returning to the UK, she continued to study part time at Keele University while working as an Occupational Therapist in the NHS, she completed her PhD in 2011.
In 2006 she took an academic post at the University of Salford. She currently teaches on the Occupational Therapy undergraduate programmes in the College of Health and Social Care. In addition to her undergraduate teaching, she has developed and teaches an online postgraduate research methods module using a virtual learning environment, she also supervises postgraduate research projects.

Tracy has long-standing research interests in social capital, personal communities and social gerontology. She has published articles in peer-reviewed journals from her MA and PhD research. She is currently conducting post-doctoral research exploring the personal communities of older widowers, building on her doctoral study with older widows. This research is supported by a successful bid to the Vice Chancellor's Early Career Reseach Scholarship.
