After 11 years in child health and intensive care nursing, and 14 years in nurse education, Tony joined the University in 2002 from the University of Leeds as Senior Lecturer in Child Health Research. In 2006 he was appointed Professor of Child & Family Health. He led the development of CYP@Salford a multi-professional research group spanning health, social care and education. His research focused on enhancing services, improving outcomes and evidencing impacts on children, young people and families. He worked closely with colleagues in the NHS, Local Authorities, the Third Sector, and national networks; developing research links with international partners in Scandinavia, the Middle East, the Far East, Europe and Australia. He is now Emeritus Professor of Child & Family Health, and a trustee at the Birtenshaw Group which provides a creative and dynamic range of care and education services for children and adults with special educational needs and disability.
